Luz goes shopping for sports clothes.
Run Taiwan now features “From Nought to 42″ – a new project where we take an unfit, shopaholic and transform her into marathon runner in 12 months!!
Luz is 26 years old and lives in Taipei. She loves to eat and shop and never exercises. After attempting to run one day and almost collapsing, she was challenged to train for, and complete, a marathon.
With the help of Mark from Run Taiwan, Luz has agreed to take on the challenge.
Follow her journey as we go from 0-42km in 12 months!!
You can follow From Nought to 42 here and on Youtube!!!

Will you be taking bets?

I might run a poll, although some others have suggested some kind of betting- many of them betting on the date she quits!!!!

My God, man! That’s quite the goal. I hope she doesn’t hurt herself in the process!

So, you’re training her to run a marathon — sounds like a good way to drive wedge in the relationship!

From Pegleg (too old to figure out how to comment)
“Well I can see she’s started carbo-loading already! and looks like she’s buying flip-flops to run in. Are you sure you’re qualified for this, Mark? There are others around with the miles under their belt and the experience to provide serious 1:1 mentoring and demonstrate the finer points of the physiology of distance running – you know, how marathon runners can do it for longer.”

Bull-Sh*t. I did the same thing. I was 29, well over weight and went from Naught to 42 in 8 months. Granted, my time sucked (3:59), and I wanted to die at the end, and couldn’t climb stairs for a solid week, but I finished.
She’s only 26, must weigh all of 40kg, and will have proper (well, somewhat proper) training. The only real question is, does SHE really want to do this?
Period!

@Period: THIS is the point. I’ve told her that anyone can do this, she is dubious but willing to try. The main trick will be getting her mentality changed – into someone determined to do it. You were not a shopaholic, Vogue reading, foodie…….or were you?
