Run Report Feb 5th: Toothprick in Houshanpi

Posted on February 17, 2012

Date: Feb 5

Hare: Toothprick

Location: Houshanpi

Weather: Great

Turnout: Very good

A run close to town, with great weather brought the crowds to this running of the China Hash. Veteran hasher Toothprick was expected to put together a decent run given his extensive knowledge of the area.

At the start of the run I asked him if the run was runnable and he informed me that it was all running and no ropes. To say he lied a little is an understatement. The run essentially went up to the very top of Elephant Mountain via a series of connected steep ups, either torturous steps or muddy inclines. When we had a break from those we ascended sheer rock faces holding on to ropes for our very lives.

At the summit, we came to the Long/Short split with a few of us- CSJ, Gaelle Says No, Benjamin Butthole, and others deciding enough of this shit!! The short option at least gave us one decent trail across the top before the descent back to the temple start/finish previously used by VBS.

The long took runners down the other side and then back up and over to the finish- a long set of concrete steps, what else??

First Man In: Dump n Run….FBI….???

Given the hare’s experience and local knowledge a much better run was expected.

The Verdict

Too much up, too many steps, not enough runnable trails but some liked it as it was a good workout.

The Score

5/10
